Our Legacy

The Evolution of NEPGP

In the late 1960s, a group of dedicated groomers came together to establish the Massachusetts Association of Professional Dog Groomers (MAPDG), creating a unified voice and providing essential support for groomers across the state. By the early 1980s, this collective effort expanded to include professionals from all New England states, evolving into what is now known as the New England Pet Grooming Professionals (NEPGP).

In 1989, NEPGP was officially registered as the grooming industry’s only non-profit organization under the 501(c)(6) designation. For over three decades, NEPGP has remained at the forefront of the industry, adapting to emerging trends and meeting the evolving needs of its members, while staying true to its mission of advancing professionalism and fostering a strong grooming community across the region.

NEPGP Mission Statement

The New England Professional Groomers Professionals (NEPGP) is dedicated to supporting groomers across New England by offering education, networking opportunities, and exclusive discounts.

Our core values—integrity, kindness, and skill—are the foundation of our mission and the pillars of success in the grooming industry. We are committed to fostering a positive, inclusive environment that nurtures the talents and growth of grooming professionals at all stages of their careers.

As a non-profit organization, NEPGP is powered entirely by a team of unpaid volunteers who are passionate about advancing the grooming profession.

NEPGP fosters a strong network of support, collaboration, and growth among its members.

Through networking, members gain valuable insights into grooming techniques, industry trends, business challenges, and career opportunities. These connections help groomers establish a professional presence within the industry while also fostering personal relationships. Many members have built long-lasting friendships through NEPGP’s networking opportunities.

NEPGP facilitates these connections through a private members-only Facebook group, educational seminars, workshops, and the annual members’ breakfast and meeting held at the New England Fall Show.
